It's got an interesting droney beat to it. Rihanna doesn't sound too bad on this, but also doesn't sound necessary. There are some good harmonies though.

Edit: From the first few times I've heard the album, this track is the one I'm finding to be the standout. Sure, another female vocalist could have done a better job than Rihanna, but she's done much worse. And I think this track needs a second person on it, so I'm happy to have her here on it.
The song has a great sound, I like the interplay of the two voices together, the lyrics are good and it's a great track. However, it's oddly structured. I didn't even realise until several listens that there isn't really a chorus. What I think to be the chorus, or the peak of the song, only occurs once, or twice if you count the immediate repetition as separate. I still love the song, but I'd have liked a more traditional structure. Even just repeating the "I could have been a princess, you'd be a king" bit once or twice more towards the end would have made me love this even more.
Still, it's great. I was tentative when I heard Rihanna would be featuring on a track for the album, but I'm very happy with the result.

Coldplay alone would have made it good. Having her on it feels unnessary, pointless and attention grabbing. But thanks to Coldplay it makes this the best thing Rihanna will ever be able to do but thanks to Rihanna a simply good Track on it's own now becomes nothing more then average. |

I don't know what to think of it. Rihanna sounds absolutely horrid, the lyrics are poor compared to the standards that both Coldplay and Rihanna can write. Chris Martin sounds like Ryan Tedder at the start and the first verse sounds like Violet Hill. I almost mistook it for a OneRepublic song at the start. The melody on which the song is based off is rather similar to Paradise's melody. The chorus is very disjointed from the versus (we're abruptly switching from a minor key to a major). The only thing that's got it going is the awesome synth and the cool sounds effects.
Rihanna does bother me a lot, although she is not the complete reason why I'm finding this track a disappointment. On the whole, she sounds like the way she sang on Who's That Chick? which is probably the worst thing she could possibly do. However, this track probably would have ended up worse without her.
I want to like this, but I don't. I'm hoping this grows on me, but it probably won't. I don't want to hate it, but I might. I really have no idea but it's certainly one of the worst things Coldplay has done so far. 2!
EDIT: Now growing to a 4...It turns out the version I was first listening to was modified due to it being on Youtube and that it was higher in pitch. Now that I'm listening to the proper (and far better) version, Chris Martin doesn't sound too much like Ryan Tedder anymore and Rihanna sounds slightly better....
EDIT 2: This song still confuses me. Still lots of cool things and still lots of bad things in it that I don't like. I could love it simply because it's by Coldplay but I could dislike it because it's still an average effort with Rihanna tacked onto it. By now I am so confused and undecided that it ends up doing nothing for me.
EDIT 3: Now quite enjoyable, although it actually got dull for me at the end, which is totally unusual for a Coldplay song. The ending was also executed poorly. I am so confused, but a 4.

I'm really loving this. Rihanna's bought something to Coldplay's music to bring it back to life. Coldplay have become so crap recently, but this is up there with Fix You, Speed Of Sound and Clocks etc. The two go well together, and it's nice to see Rihanna doing another ballad-y song. |

Top-Song! Mit (kleinem aber feinen) Abstand zu "Paradise" DAS Highlight auf Mylo Xyloto.... einfach super, die Stimmen passen überraschend gut zusammen und vor allem der Anfang bis 1:40 hat es mir sehr angetan. Den Rest fand ich erst etwas langweilig, aber gefällt mir mittlerweile auch so super, dass ich da wirklich die Höchstnote zücken kann..
Übrigens finde ich sowieso interessant, dass man Rihanna auf dem Album findet... hätte nie damit gerechnet, dass Coldplay ein Duett mit Rihanna machen würde!

Der Song ist zwar schon fast ein Jahr alt, aber naja, verlier ich halt mal da drüber keine Worte. Meine Kritik:
Da ich Rihanna generell überhaupt nicht mag, hab' ich mir von diesem Song hier eigentlich nichts erwartet. Coldplay ist aber immer wieder für tolle Lieder gut, möglicherweise also auch mit Rihanna. "Mylo Xyloto" war aber eine herbe Enttäuschung für meine Ohren! Äußerst durchschnittliche Radio-Musik ohne richtig gefühlvolle Songs. So auch dieser hier. Die Hälfte des Songs ist instrumental oder es wird nur "Ohohoho" gesungen. Der Text ist für Coldplay-Verhältnisse schlecht, für Rihanna-Verhältnisse gut; im Allgemeinen betrachtet schwaches Mittelmaß. Der neue Stil von Coldplay ist interessant zu hören, aber nicht genau meins. In diesem Lied hört man verschiedenste Instrumente und er bringt allein schon beim einfachen Hören (ohne das Musikvideo) Orient-Stimmung mit sich. Afrika-Stimmung könnte auch durchgehen, mit "Princess Of China" im Titel denkt man aber automatisch nicht an Afrika. Doch um nicht abzuschweifen:
"Princess Of China" ist eine nette, eingänige Radio-Nummer, hat aber nicht hunderprozentiges Hit-Potenzial. Glaube auch nicht, dass es noch einer werden wird, wenn's die vielen Monate davor nicht geklappt hat. Von Coldplay gibt's zwar wesentlich besseres, mit dem anderen Kram der derzeit in den Charts ist verglichen, ist dieser Song aber recht gut. Jedoch besteht die Möglichkeit, dass ich anfange die Nummer zu hassen, wenn ich sie täglich im Radio höre.
Bis jetzt find ich sie aber noch ganz okay :)
Fazit: Coldplay und Rihanna passen wirklich gut zusammen und haben hier eine chillige Pop-Nummer produziert, die ins Ohr geht.
